President Ilham Aliyev has shared a post on his official social media accounts regarding the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy.
Operative Information Center-OMM presents the post:

The commemoration marks one of the most tragic yet heroic pages in the history of Azerbaijan's struggle for independence. Every year on January 20, the people of Azerbaijan honor the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country during the military aggression of the Soviet army in 1990.
The events of January 20, often referred to as "Black January," involved the violent crackdown by Soviet troops against peaceful protesters in Baku who were demanding freedom and protesting against the biased policy of the USSR leadership. This turning point eventually led to the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence in 1991. The tragedy is officially recognized in Azerbaijan as a day of national mourning and pride.
