Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs has held a telephone conversation with the leader of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev, to address recent security developments in the region.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Press Service of the President of Azerbaijan, that during the call, the Latvian President strongly condemned the attack carried out by Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on the territory of Azerbaijan.
Edgars Rinkēvičs emphasized his solidarity with the state and people of Azerbaijan regarding the incident and expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured in the attack. President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude to the Latvian head of state for the phone call and the principled position demonstrated.
During the conversation, the heads of state also exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia, as well as prospects for future contacts and cooperation. Relations between the two nations are characterized by a strategic partnership, particularly within the framework of Azerbaijan's strengthening ties with European Union member states and cooperation in energy security and transport corridors.
Latvia has consistently supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. This diplomatic outreach follows a pattern of increasing international condemnation of external military provocations in the South Caucasus, as Azerbaijan continues its large-scale restoration and reconstruction efforts in its liberated territories.
