Italian companies have implemented or are currently executing 23 projects in the liberated territories of Garabagh and East Zangilan, President Ilham Aliyev announced.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that President Ilham Aliyev made these remarks during a joint press statement with the President of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Giorgia Meloni. The head of state emphasized that when looking at the involvement of foreign companies, Italy maintains a leading position in the execution of these vital reconstruction initiatives.
The partnership between Baku and Rome has significantly expanded beyond the energy sector, where Italy remains a primary buyer of Azerbaijani gas via the Southern Gas Corridor. Following the liberation of its territories, Azerbaijan launched the "Great Return" program, a large-scale state initiative aimed at rebuilding infrastructure, restoring historical monuments, and establishing "smart" cities and villages. Italian firms are actively contributing to these efforts, particularly in the fields of energy infrastructure, architecture, and the restoration of cultural heritage sites in Shusha and other liberated regions, reflecting the high level of strategic cooperation between the two nations.
