President Ilham Aliyev receives Speaker of Turkish Parliament

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM), on June 24.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state emphasized the significance of the TBMM Speaker's participation in the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States Conference.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan plans to host further events within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, underscoring the importance of deepening ties among Islamic nations. The Shusha Declaration, signed in 2021, serves as the cornerstone of the strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, elevating bilateral relations to the level of a formal alliance.

Numan Kurtulmuş expressed his gratitude for the reception and for the high-level organization of the 20th session of the OIC Parliamentary Union Conference. He conveyed the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the head of state. President Ilham Aliyev thanked him for the greetings and requested that his own regards be conveyed to President Erdoğan.

During the meeting, the parties highlighted the significance of the Shusha Declaration, noting the successful development of fraternal and allied relations between the two countries across all sectors, including inter-parliamentary cooperation. It was stated that the Azerbaijan-Türkiye unity and brotherhood serve as an unparalleled model globally and are considered a shared asset. The participants emphasized that the friendship and brotherhood between the two nations remain a crucial factor in ensuring peace and security in the South Caucasus region.

The discussions also covered the current state of cooperation between the legislative bodies of both countries and explored prospects for further expanding these ties.
