President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Joan Pons Sanpietro, on September 3.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the guest noted that one of the existing conflicts in the OSCE area has been resolved and sustainable peace has been ensured in the region. In this regard, he congratulated the head of state on the achievements made in the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Expressing his gratitude for the congratulations, the head of state noted with regret that the OSCE Minsk Group, which was responsible for resolving the conflict for nearly 30 years, failed to achieve any results in the negotiation process. He emphasized that the UN Security Council resolutions demanding the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijani territories were not implemented.
President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan ended the conflict through military-political means, restoring its territorial integrity and sovereignty.
During the conversation, satisfaction was expressed regarding the contacts and political dialogue between Azerbaijan and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, in contrast to some other European parliamentary institutions.
The importance of demonstrating a balanced approach to the entire OSCE space was emphasized as part of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly's agenda.
The discussion touched upon intercultural dialogue, with the role and contributions of Azerbaijan in this process being noted with satisfaction.
The President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly highlighted the significance of the 4th International Mine Action Conference, titled "Humanitarian Mine Action for Urban Recovery: Setting Excellence Standards for Safe Settlements," held in Baku. He stated that the issue of landmines is also being discussed on the agenda of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
