President Ilham Aliyev has stated that since the historic victory in the Patriotic War, he has made it a tradition to celebrate May 28 - Independence Day in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, during a meeting with residents in the village of Boyuk Galadarasi in Shusha, the head of state noted that he considers this the most appropriate choice.
"I celebrate Independence Day in the liberated lands, and this has already become a tradition. I believe it is the right choice. This Independence Day is very dear to all of us. However, it is a fact that the independence achieved back then, in 1918, lasted only two years. We could not preserve it at that time; it was taken from us. After that, we did not live as an independent state for 70 years," the President said.
The celebration of Independence Day in the liberated territories of Garabagh holds significant symbolic weight for Azerbaijan. It serves as a testament to the restoration of the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. By marking this national holiday in regions such as Shusha, President Ilham Aliyev underscores the successful implementation of the state's post-conflict reconstruction and the return of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands.
