President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree on the call-up of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan for active military service and the discharge of servicemen from active military service to the reserve from April 1 to April 30, 2026.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, under the decree, citizens of Azerbaijan born in 2008 who are 18 years of age by the day of conscription (including that day), as well as those born between 1996 and 2007 who are under the age of 30 and have not completed active military service, do not have a right to deferment, or have not been exempted from conscription, shall be called up for active military service from April 1 to April 30, 2026.
Furthermore, servicemen who have completed their term of service as provided for in Article 38.1.1 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Military Duty and Military Service" will be discharged to the reserve during the same period. The process ensures the planned rotation of personnel within the Azerbaijan Armed Forces, maintaining the nation's defense capabilities and readiness.
Military service in Azerbaijan is a mandatory constitutional duty for male citizens, playing a vital role in the country's national security strategy. The conscription process is managed by the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription, which oversees the recruitment of personnel for the Ministry of Defense and other armed formations. This regular cycle of conscription and discharge is essential for sustaining the professional standards and operational efficiency of the Azerbaijani military, particularly in the post-conflict reconstruction and security phase in the liberated territories of Garabagh and East Zangazur.
