The number of teams in the Misli Premier League is set to increase, contingent upon the infrastructure and readiness levels of potential candidates. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, this statement was made by AFFA President Rovshan Najaf during a recent press conference. The head of the national association noted that expanding the championship is currently one of the primary topics of discussion.

"The main issue here is the readiness of infrastructure. We must accurately assess which clubs are potentially capable of competing and evaluate their facilities. Our goal is to fully resolve the stadium issues for all clubs participating in the championship," Rovshan Najaf stated. He emphasized that competitiveness and quality remain the top priorities when making these decisions, ensuring that expansion does not come at the expense of the league's overall balance. The AFFA president added that the matter is a key item on the Executive Committee's agenda, with relevant decisions expected during upcoming meetings. The remarks were delivered following the AFFA Report Conference held in Baku.

The Misli Premier League, the top professional football division in Azerbaijan, has undergone various format changes in recent years to enhance the quality of local football. Currently consisting of 10 clubs, the league's expansion is seen as a strategic move to increase the geographical reach of the sport across the Republic of Azerbaijan and provide more opportunities for young talent. By prioritizing infrastructure, AFFA aims to ensure that clubs from regions such as Ganja, Lankaran, and the liberated territories in Garabagh can eventually meet the rigorous licensing requirements for top-flight competition.
