The Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) is implementing comprehensive measures to eliminate refereeing errors in the Misli Premier League. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, AFFA President Rovshan Najaf announced the initiative during a press conference following the association's annual report meeting.
"We are taking active steps to address refereeing mistakes, and work is underway to minimize them. While no match is entirely without error, the primary goal of these reforms is to ensure that decisions are as accurate as possible," Najaf stated. He further emphasized that the development strategy includes improving the quality of the national championship, supporting the success of clubs like Garabagh in European competitions, and facilitating the transfer of Azerbaijani players to foreign leagues.
Addressing financial matters, the AFFA President noted that every club provides regular reports on the expenditure of allocated funds. "AFFA monitors the targeted use of these resources. As noted in our report, the development of youth football and the efficient operation of academies are our priorities. Our main goal is to ensure full transparency," he added, inviting stakeholders to report any discrepancies in fund management. Najaf also highlighted infrastructure as a significant challenge, noting that complete modernization requires substantial investment, which the association plans to address through sponsor engagement and improved revenue management.
The focus on refereeing and infrastructure comes at a pivotal time for Azerbaijani football as the nation seeks to elevate its domestic league to international standards. Historically, AFFA has worked closely with UEFA and FIFA to implement VAR (Video Assistant Referee) systems and professional training programs for officials. These latest reforms represent a continued effort to professionalize the sport in Azerbaijan, ensuring that the Misli Premier League remains competitive and fair for all participating clubs.
