The issue of Ukraine is expected to lose its primary spot on the agenda at the upcoming annual World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Politico, reports that European representatives are now forced to shift their focus toward the escalating tensions surrounding Greenland.

According to the report, while European officials had originally planned to discuss peace negotiations regarding Ukraine, US President Donald Trump's renewed interest in incorporating Greenland into the United States has become the dominant topic of discussion. European sides have characterized this situation as the "most serious transatlantic crisis in recent decades."

The following issues are expected to take center stage during the forum:

  • Preventing US President Donald Trump from undermining NATO operations due to the Greenland dispute;
  • Private meetings between the US leader and the leadership of the EU and NATO;
  • Resolving the diplomatic tensions arising from the status of Greenland.

It should be recalled that US President Donald Trump first proposed purchasing Greenland during his initial term. In March 2025, he revisited the possibility of annexing the island, with White House officials questioning Denmark's sovereign rights over the territory. Greenland remains an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Under a 1951 treaty, the United States is responsible for the island's defense.

The World Economic Forum, held annually in the Swiss resort of Davos, serves as a global platform for political and business leaders to discuss pressing international issues. While the forum traditionally focuses on global economic stability and regional conflicts, the sudden shift in US foreign policy priorities has introduced significant uncertainty into the transatlantic alliance, potentially overshadowing long-standing security concerns in Eastern Europe.
