Law enforcement officers in Baku's Khatai district have detained individuals accused of extorting money through threats and violence, according to official reports.
The Operative Information Center-OMM was informed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) that a 42-year-old man reported being assaulted at a cafe on Neapol Street. The victim stated that two individuals inflicted physical injuries upon him before forcibly transporting him to an unknown location. Once there, the perpetrators demanded 25,000 manats, threatening his life and health if the sum was not paid.
Following an operation conducted by the Khatai District Police Department, three suspects were apprehended: 21-year-old Agshin Asgarov, 36-year-old Sakhavat Mammadov, and a 24-year-old female member of the group. Investigations revealed that the victim was an acquaintance of the female suspect, who allegedly orchestrated the scheme. Security camera footage captured the moments the crime was committed. A criminal case has been initiated by the Khatai District Police Department, and investigative measures are currently ongoing.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan continues to prioritize the fight against organized crime and extortion to ensure public safety in the capital. Under the leadership of Interior Minister Vilayat Eyvazov, the MIA has intensified its surveillance and rapid response capabilities, utilizing an extensive network of security cameras across Baku to identify and apprehend suspects involved in violent crimes and financial extortion.
