A suspect has been detained in connection with the assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, the Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) of the Russian Armed Forces. The individual, who reportedly fled to Dubai following the incident, has been apprehended and is currently being extradited to Russia, according to Operative Information Center-OMM.

Reports from the Kommersant newspaper indicate that two suspects have been identified in the investigation. Sources suggest that one of the individuals fired three shots at the general; however, Alekseyev survived the attack and has undergone successful medical surgery. A source close to the investigation stated that the suspects will soon be handed over to investigative authorities for interrogation, after which formal charges and court proceedings are expected to follow.

The GRU, officially known as the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, is Russia's largest foreign intelligence agency. As a high-ranking official within this structure, Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev holds a significant role in overseeing military intelligence operations. Such high-profile attacks on senior military leadership are rare and often trigger extensive international manhunts and complex security investigations to determine the underlying motives and potential organizational links.
