Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has informed journalists that no new telephone conversation or meeting is currently planned between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Peskov's statement follows the August 25 visit to Moscow by US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe. Reports indicate that while Ratcliffe held meetings with Russian intelligence officials during his visit, he did not meet directly with Vladimir Putin.
US President Donald Trump characterized Ratcliffe's visit to Moscow as a "semi-routine" trip. Nevertheless, the visit is widely understood to have taken place within the framework of ongoing contacts regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and other pressing security issues.
While diplomatic contacts between Moscow and Washington regarding the situation in Ukraine continue, negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict have yet to yield significant results. The US administration continues to pursue diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Such high-level intelligence exchanges are often utilized by major powers to maintain communication channels during periods of geopolitical tension, serving as a mechanism to prevent miscalculation and manage crisis escalation.
