Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the resignation of his government during a Cabinet of Ministers meeting. The move comes as a procedural step following the formation of a new parliament.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Pashinyan stated that the current government is stepping down to facilitate the transition to the new legislative body. The Prime Minister noted that the session marked the final meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers before the commencement of the 9th convocation of the National Assembly.
Under the Armenian Constitution, the resignation of the government is a standard procedural requirement following parliamentary elections. Once the resignation is formalized, the parliamentary majority is tasked with nominating a candidate for the position of Prime Minister, who must then be appointed by the President. The new National Assembly is expected to begin its official duties on August 2, playing a critical role in the formation of the country's next government.
