Ozgur Ozel has been elected as the chairman of the parliamentary group of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing TRT Haber, the election was held during a meeting of the party's parliamentary group at the CHP headquarters, where Ozel secured the leadership position after a vote among the party's lawmakers.
This development follows a recent decision by an Ankara court which annulled the results of the 38th CHP Ordinary Congress held on November 4-5, 2023. The court's ruling had temporarily removed Ozel from his position as the overall party chairman, reinstating former leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu on an interim basis until a final judicial decision is reached. The CHP, founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, is Turkey's oldest political party and serves as the primary opposition force in the country's parliament.
