A new legislative initiative has been proposed in Azerbaijan to grant employees additional leave days based on their years of service.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this significant proposal is included in the 2025 annual report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman). The document was discussed today during a meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly).
The primary objective of the draft is to more effectively ensure the labor and rest rights of workers. To this end, amendments are planned for Article 116 of the Labor Code. According to the proposal, additional leave days will be calculated as follows: employees with 15 to 20 years of service would receive 6 calendar days of extra leave, while those with more than 20 years of service would be entitled to 8 calendar days of additional annual leave.
The Labor Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan serves as the primary legal framework regulating employment relations, ensuring social protection, and defining the rights and obligations of both employers and employees. These proposed amendments align with Azerbaijan's ongoing social reforms aimed at improving the welfare of the workforce and harmonizing national labor legislation with international standards. If approved by the Milli Majlis (National Assembly), the changes will provide a more robust incentive for long-term professional commitment across various sectors in Azerbaijan.
