An oil tanker sailing off the coast of Oman has been targeted by an unidentified projectile.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the incident was reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a division of the British Royal Navy that monitors maritime security.
The incident occurred approximately 6 nautical miles (about 11 kilometers) off the coast of Oman. Reports indicate that the projectile struck the bow of the vessel. Initial assessments confirmed that there were no injuries among the crew members, and no significant damage to the environment was reported.
In an official statement, the UKMTO confirmed that the tanker has sustained its structural integrity and is continuing its voyage toward its destination port. Maritime authorities are currently investigating the source of the projectile.
The waters off the coast of Oman and the broader Gulf region are critical maritime corridors for global energy supplies. Security incidents in these shipping lanes often prompt heightened vigilance from international naval forces, as they are vital for the safe passage of commercial vessels transporting oil and gas to global markets.
