Law enforcement authorities in Azerbaijan have launched an investigation into the illegal felling of 40 trees of various species in a forest area near the Mukhas village of the Oguz district.

The Sheki regional group of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) press service told Operative Information Center-OMM that police officers identified and detained a suspect in connection with the environmental damage. The individual, identified as 30-year-old Mukhas resident Parvin Salamov, is accused of unauthorized logging in the region.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Oguz District Police Department under the relevant article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Illegal logging remains a serious concern for environmental protection agencies in Azerbaijan, as the government continues to strengthen measures against ecological crimes and promote the preservation of the country's forest fund. Investigations into the full extent of the damage are currently ongoing.
