King Haakon VIII of Norway took his oath of office before the Storting (parliament) on September 1, in accordance with the country's Constitution.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from Interfax, the ceremony marked a significant transition for the Scandinavian nation.

"I promise and swear that I will govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its Constitution and laws, so help me God, the Almighty and All-knowing," the monarch declared during the proceedings.

Under Article 9 of the Norwegian Constitution, the oath-taking ceremony at the Storting is one of the most critical constitutional acts. The event formally affirms that the monarch's powers are limited and strictly regulated by the nation's Basic Law, underscoring the constitutional monarchy framework that defines Norwegian governance.

The accession follows the passing of King Harald V, who was Europe's oldest monarch, on August 28 at the age of 89. Following the transition, the royal household includes Queen Mette-Marit, wife of King Haakon VIII, and Queen Sonja, the widow of the late King Harald V.
