Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Azerbaijan, Duncan Norman, on Tuesday.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Norman presented a copy of his credentials to Minister Jeyhun Bayramov during the meeting.

Minister Bayramov congratulated the ambassador on his new appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan. The two sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The parties noted with satisfaction the successful development of cooperation in political, economic, energy, trade, investment, and educational spheres. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of elevating relations to the level of strategic partnership, increasing high-level contacts, and further expanding economic ties.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the ambassador with detailed information regarding the current situation in the region, the realities of the post-conflict period, and the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including the steps taken by Baku to ensure regional stability.

Ambassador Duncan Norman expressed his pleasure at beginning his diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan and stated that he would spare no effort to further develop cooperation between the two nations. The meeting also covered other matters of mutual interest.

The United Kingdom remains one of the largest foreign investors in Azerbaijan, primarily through its significant involvement in the country's energy sector, including the development of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil fields and the Shah Deniz gas field. Diplomatic relations between the two countries have historically focused on energy security, economic diversification, and regional stability.
