Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has addressed the activities of the Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD) lobby group within the US Congress following a government session. Speaking during a press briefing, Pashinyan stated that the lobby is actively attempting to revive the so-called "Garabagh movement" on the political agenda.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Prime Minister noted that efforts in the US Congress to adopt statements regarding the "safe return" of Armenians to Garabagh are being orchestrated with the support of these lobby structures. Pashinyan characterized these initiatives as a continuation of the "Garabagh movement," emphasizing that such actions are incompatible with Armenia's current political agenda.
Pashinyan asserted that as long as his administration remains in power, such attempts will yield no practical results and will be firmly countered. He emphasized that Armenian society does not support new adventures in this direction. Furthermore, the Prime Minister described the essence of the agreements reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan as a mutual understanding for the "two countries to leave each other alone," stressing that both sides must act in accordance with existing political realities.
The "Garabagh movement" refers to the late 1980s nationalist campaign that catalyzed the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Following the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020 and the subsequent anti-terror measures in 2023, Azerbaijan fully restored its sovereignty over the Garabagh region, including the city of Khankendi. Recent tensions have been reported in Yerevan, where authorities have repeatedly removed separatist symbols placed by Dashnaktsutyun supporters in "France Square," only for activists to attempt to reinstall them.
