Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that he has issued instructions to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ynet news portal released information regarding this development.

"The disarmament of Hezbollah and the establishment of peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon will be the main issues of the negotiations. Israel highly appreciates the call made today by the Lebanese Prime Minister regarding the deployment of troops in Beirut," Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized.

It should be recalled that Iran, the United States, and their allies reached an agreement on a two-week ceasefire on the night of April 8, 2026. Iran, for its part, stated that during this period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be ensured in coordination with the Iranian armed forces and taking into account technical limitations.

However, Israel launched strikes on Lebanon on April 8, arguing that the current ceasefire decision did not apply to that country. Subsequently, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, stated that a ceasefire in Lebanon was the primary condition of the plan.

The escalation in the region comes at a critical time for Middle Eastern diplomacy. The involvement of US President Donald Trump's administration in mediating regional conflicts has remained a focal point of international relations in 2026. These potential talks between Israel and Lebanon represent a significant shift in the geopolitical landscape, as both nations seek to navigate the complex security environment involving non-state actors and regional powers.
