Drone fragments have been discovered near a secondary school in the Shekarabad village of the Babek district following an aerial attack launched from Iranian territory targeting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing AZERTAC, regional correspondents have released images documenting the remains of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the site.
The strikes, which occurred during the afternoon hours, targeted both the terminal building of the Nakhchivan International Airport and the vicinity of the Shekarabad village secondary school. While the airport terminal sustained significant structural damage and resulted in injuries to two civilians, the second drone fell near the educational facility. AZERTAC previously released footage showing the wreckage of the drone that struck the airport infrastructure in the capital of the autonomous republic.
Nakhchivan, an exclave of Azerbaijan, shares a significant border with Iran to the south and west. This incident marks a serious escalation in regional tensions, as the targeting of civilian infrastructure, including international transportation hubs and educational zones, raises significant security concerns. Azerbaijani authorities are currently investigating the technical specifications of the downed UAVs to determine the exact nature of the ordnance used in the provocation against the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan.
