President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree on the appointment of Natiq Sahrab oglu Ibrahimov as the rector of Lankaran State University.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state's order ensures the continued leadership of the institution. Ibrahimov has served as the rector of the university since 2021, having previously performed the duties of acting rector from 2016 to 2021.
Born on March 28, 1953, in the Gabala district, Natiq Ibrahimov graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Baku State University in 1978. His professional career includes significant roles within the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan, where he served as a lead inspector and later as the deputy head of the Department of Science, Higher and Secondary Special Education since 2014. Between 2008 and 2013, he represented the Ministry in the Bologna Follow-up Group (BFUG), playing a key role in integrating the higher education system of Azerbaijan into the European Higher Education Area.
Lankaran State University, located in the southern region of Azerbaijan, serves as a significant regional educational hub. Under Ibrahimov's leadership, the university has undergone extensive reforms to modernize its material and technical base, enhance transparency, and expand international cooperation with approximately 50 universities across Turkey and Europe. Ibrahimov, a Doctor of Sciences and Professor, was awarded the title of "Honored Teacher of the Republic of Azerbaijan" in 2011 and has been a member of the New Azerbaijan Party since 2003. He is married and has three children.
