During the first seven months of 2026 (January-July), 3,282 individuals were held criminally liable for the illegal trafficking of narcotics in Azerbaijan, with 33 of those being foreign nationals.

This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Working Group of the State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs.

According to the report, the individuals prosecuted included 3,188 men and 94 women. Notably, the number of foreign citizens involved in such criminal activities has decreased by 31 compared to the same period in 2025.

Authorities seized significant quantities of illicit substances from the 33 foreign nationals, totaling 385 kilograms, 433.185 grams, and 974 tablets of various narcotics, alongside three cannabis plants weighing 880 grams.

The report further highlighted that law enforcement agencies identified 114 instances of smuggling narcotics and psychotropic substances into the country. These operations resulted in the seizure of over 1.6 tons of narcotics and 20,930 methadone tablets from illegal circulation.

Azerbaijan maintains a strict policy against drug trafficking, with the government continuously strengthening border security and international cooperation to curb the flow of illicit substances. The State Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs plays a pivotal role in coordinating these efforts across various law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety and national security.
