Azerbaijani border guards have successfully prevented an attempt to smuggle over 32 kilograms of narcotics from Iran into Azerbaijan.

This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the State Border Service (SBS).

According to the official report, the operation was conducted by the Lankaran border detachment of the Border Troops Command. During a border search and operational sweep, authorities intercepted a total of 32 kilograms and 365 grams of illicit substances, including 27 kilograms and 65 grams of marijuana, 5 kilograms and 300 grams of heroin, as well as 7,200 units of the psychotropic drug Methadone M-40.

Operational and investigative measures regarding the incident are currently ongoing.

The State Border Service of Azerbaijan frequently conducts such operations to secure the country's borders against transnational organized crime. As a transit route connecting major global markets, Azerbaijan maintains strict border control protocols to combat the illegal drug trade, which remains a significant security priority for the nation in its efforts to prevent the proliferation of narcotics within the region.
