DİN və FHN-dən Novruz xəbərdarlığı

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Ministry of Emergency Situations (FHS) have issued a joint appeal to the public regarding fire safety during the Novruz holiday festivities in Azerbaijan.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the MIA and FHS released official statements emphasizing the importance of caution during the traditional celebrations. The authorities noted that lighting holiday bonfires in building courtyards, near vehicles, or in proximity to forests and green spaces can pose a serious threat to public safety and property.

"Failure to comply with fire safety rules when lighting bonfires can lead to undesirable and tragic consequences. We bring the following to the attention of citizens:" the statement reads. The ministries outlined several mandatory safety measures:

  • Holiday bonfires must be lit at least 50 meters away from buildings, vehicles, electric cables, trees, and other flammable objects;
  • Minors gathering around the bonfire must be under adult supervision;
  • Extreme caution should be exercised when jumping over bonfires;
  • The bonfire must be monitored until it is completely extinguished;
  • Candles lit on festive tables must not be left unattended.

Novruz is one of the most significant and cherished holidays in Azerbaijan, symbolizing the arrival of spring and the renewal of nature. A central tradition of the festivities involves lighting bonfires on the four Tuesdays leading up to the holiday and on the eve of Novruz itself, representing purification and light. Given the mass participation in these outdoor activities across Baku and other regions of the Republic, Azerbaijani law enforcement and emergency services increase their vigilance annually to prevent accidents and ensure a safe holiday environment for all residents.
