An Aeroflot aircraft traveling from Moscow to Baku was forced to return to Sheremetyevo International Airport following a collision with birds shortly after takeoff.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the airline's press service, the landing was executed successfully. Despite the bird strike, both engines continued to operate normally, and the aircraft proceeded to its designated parking area independently after touching down.
The airline confirmed that all passengers will be transported to Baku on a backup aircraft to minimize delays. Technical teams are currently inspecting the original vessel to ensure its continued airworthiness and to assess any potential damage caused by the impact.
Bird strikes are a common challenge in civil aviation, particularly during takeoff and landing phases. International aviation protocols require pilots to return to the nearest airport for a thorough technical inspection if a collision is suspected, ensuring the highest safety standards for passengers and crew. Sheremetyevo, as one of Russia's primary aviation hubs, maintains specialized equipment to mitigate wildlife risks near runways.
