The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan has congratulated President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva on the upcoming Independence Day on May 28 and the holy holiday of Eid al-Adha (Qurban Bayram).
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova made the proposal during the plenary session of the parliament. She suggested sending official congratulatory letters on behalf of the legislature to President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, a proposal that was warmly applauded by the members of parliament.
Independence Day, celebrated annually on May 28, honors the founding of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, which was the first secular democratic republic in the Muslim world. Eid al-Adha, known locally as Qurban Bayram, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, symbolizing sacrifice, unity, and charity, and is widely observed across Azerbaijan with official public holidays and community events.
