The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan has extended its congratulations to the people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the Victory over fascism in World War II. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the ministry shared the official message on its account on the social media platform X.
In the official statement, the MFA highlighted the heroism and sacrifice of the Azerbaijani people during the global conflict. "We congratulate our people on the 81st anniversary of the Victory over fascism. The Azerbaijani people demonstrated great sacrifice during World War II and made a significant contribution to the victory over fascism both on the front line and in the rear. We commemorate the dear memory of our compatriots who died during the war and wish our veterans robust health and a long life," the ministry stated.
Azerbaijan played a strategic and decisive role in the Allied victory during World War II, particularly through its energy resources. During the war years, Baku provided more than 70 percent of the oil and 80 percent of the fuel consumed by the Soviet military, which was vital for the operation of tanks and aviation. Furthermore, over 600,000 sons and daughters of Azerbaijan fought on the front lines, with many being awarded the highest military honors for their bravery in the struggle against fascism. Today, May 9 is celebrated as a public holiday in Azerbaijan to honor the legacy of those who served.
