Pakistan says indirect US-Iran contacts are ongoing

Pakistan is continuing efforts to help resolve the conflict between the United States and Iran, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said.

Operative Information Center-OMM quoted Asif as saying that indirect contacts exist between representatives of Washington and Tehran.

According to the minister, Islamabad is seeking to create conditions that could help reduce tensions in the region.

He also expressed optimism that the conflict could be de-escalated in the future.

Pakistan has historically sought to maintain working relations with both the United States and Iran. Its geographic position and ties with the two countries have periodically enabled Islamabad to offer its offices for dialogue and facilitate diplomatic contacts.
