First Vice President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva has shared a post on her official social media accounts marking March 31 – the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the post reads: "I respectfully honor the bright memory of the victims of the genocide. May Allah rest the souls of all our martyrs."
The Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis commemorates the tragic events of March 1918, when Bolshevik-Dashnak armed groups carried out massacres against ethnic Azerbaijanis in Baku, Shamakhi, Guba, and other regions. These events resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of civilians and the destruction of numerous historical and cultural monuments. In 1998, National Leader Heydar Aliyev signed a decree officially declaring March 31 as the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis to ensure the political and legal assessment of these historical atrocities.
