Azerbaijan's Media Development Agency outlines 2026 plans

The Supervisory Board of the Media Development Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan held its first meeting of 2026 on February 3 to discuss the agency's performance and future objectives.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the meeting, chaired by Dagbayi Ismayilov, included board members Vugar Aliyev, Shafag Mehraliyeva, Sevil Mikayilova, and Elchin Shikhli, as well as the Agency's Executive Director Ahmad Ismayilov and Deputy Executive Director Natig Mammadli. During the session, Raqsana Karimova, Head of the Agency's Staff, presented a comprehensive report on the activities conducted throughout 2025.

The report provided detailed information on measures implemented to strengthen the economic independence of media subjects, enhance the professionalism of journalists and communication officials, and increase media literacy within society. Furthermore, the board reviewed the agency's efforts in establishing international partnerships and organizing global media events. Board members proposed expanding the scope of ongoing projects and identified priority directions for the agency's operations in the coming period.

Orkhan Humbatzada, Director of the Finance and Provision Department, provided a detailed briefing on financial planning for the current year in accordance with the agency's charter. The board members evaluated the allocation of funds within the 2026 budget as appropriate and satisfactory. Discussions also focused on the implementation of strategic projects to ensure the sustainable development of the media sector, the promotion of innovative approaches, and the efficient use of existing resources.

The Media Development Agency (MEDIA) was established by a decree of President Ilham Aliyev to support the modernization of the national information space. The agency plays a pivotal role in implementing state policy regarding media development, providing technical and financial support to outlets, and ensuring the transition to digital and innovative media practices in Azerbaijan. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure the country's media landscape remains competitive and transparent on an international level.
