The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has issued a formal appeal to the public regarding fire safety rules during the upcoming Novruz Tuesdays (Chershenbe) festivities.
According to information provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the ministry, citizens are urged to strictly adhere to safety protocols to prevent accidents during traditional celebrations. The ministry recommends the following essential measures when organizing holiday ceremonies:
- Holiday bonfires must be lit far from houses, vehicles, electrical wires, trees, and other flammable materials;
- Minors gathering around the bonfire must be under the constant supervision of adults;
- Extreme caution should be exercised when jumping over bonfires;
- The bonfire must be kept under surveillance until it is completely extinguished;
- Candles lit on festive tables must not be left unattended.
Furthermore, the ministry emphasized that lighting bonfires in windy weather conditions is considered particularly dangerous and should be avoided to prevent the rapid spread of fire. In case of any emergency, citizens are advised to immediately contact the "112" hotline of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Novruz is one of the most significant traditional holidays in Azerbaijan, symbolizing the arrival of spring and the renewal of nature. The four Tuesdays leading up to the holiday—representing water, fire, wind, and earth—are celebrated with various rituals, including the lighting of bonfires. The Ministry of Emergency Situations traditionally increases its monitoring and public awareness campaigns during this period to ensure public safety across the Republic of Azerbaijan.
