At least 12 people have been killed following massive Russian strikes targeting Kyiv and the surrounding Kyiv region. According to reports from Russian media outlets, the attacks have caused significant casualties and infrastructure damage.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that 8 fatalities occurred within Kyiv city. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that seven of the victims were railway employees. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that one of the deceased was a citizen of India. The assault caused severe damage to a 16-story residential building, triggering a fire and leaving several others injured.
In the city of Boryspil, located in the Kyiv region, four additional deaths were reported after an industrial facility and a five-story residential building were struck. This marks the sixth consecutive day of intensified aerial attacks on the capital and its surrounding areas. Furthermore, strikes on the city of Odesa resulted in seven injuries and damage to civilian infrastructure.
The Russian Ministry of Defense acknowledged the strikes, stating that they targeted military-industrial, oil, and energy facilities in the Kyiv region, as well as port infrastructure in the Odesa region. The ministry specifically confirmed the destruction of a locomotive depot in Kyiv.
The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which escalated significantly in February 2022, has frequently involved long-range missile and drone strikes on critical infrastructure. These attacks often target energy grids and logistics hubs, leading to widespread power outages and significant humanitarian concerns across Ukraine.
