A total of 9,000 Americans have been evacuated from the Middle East following escalating tensions in the region.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the figures during a press conference, Operative Information Center-OMM reports. According to the US Department of State, citing Rubio, approximately 1,500 additional American citizens are currently seeking assistance with evacuation procedures.

Secretary Rubio noted that the US government is considering various options to facilitate the departure of its citizens, including the use of charter, military, and commercial flights. He highlighted the logistical challenges posed by the current security environment, mentioning instances where aircraft already in flight were forced to return due to sudden airspace closures. Ongoing attacks and the intermittent shutdown of regional airports continue to cause significant disruptions to flight schedules.

The Secretary of State further emphasized that US embassies and diplomatic missions have come under direct threat from Iranian attacks. As a precautionary measure, staff members at many of these missions were evacuated in advance. Consequently, several diplomatic representations across the region have officially suspended their operations until further notice.

The current evacuation efforts come amid a period of heightened geopolitical instability in the Middle East, characterized by direct military confrontations and threats to international diplomatic facilities. The US Department of State regularly issues travel advisories and emergency protocols for its citizens abroad during such crises to ensure their safety and facilitate rapid departure from high-risk zones. These operations often involve complex coordination between the Department of Defense and international aviation authorities to maintain secure corridors for transport.
