US diplomats have been instructed to increase pressure on Iran following reports of heightened security threats.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing ABC News, that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has issued a directive to American diplomatic missions abroad.
According to the report, an internal cable sent to US embassies and consulates on March 16 instructed diplomats to urge host governments to take "urgent measures to limit the attack capabilities of Iran and its affiliated terrorist groups." The directive comes amid what the administration describes as an "increased risk of attacks" originating from Tehran and its proxies. The message, titled "Growing concerns regarding IRGC activities," is to be delivered at the "highest level" by March 20.
The cable emphasizes that international cooperation is vital for increasing pressure on entities such as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Hezbollah. The US State Department further noted that these diplomatic initiatives should be coordinated with Israeli representatives where appropriate. Furthermore, US diplomatic missions have been tasked with urging their respective host countries to officially designate the IRGC and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations.
