French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his support for the ceasefire announced between Israel and Hezbollah, while simultaneously voicing concern over the continued reports of hostilities in the region.
According to foreign media reports cited by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the French leader emphasized the necessity of a lasting peace to ensure regional stability.
In a statement shared on the X social media platform, Macron noted his full support for the ceasefire initiative announced by US President Donald Trump. He expressed apprehension that ongoing clashes could lead to a breach of the agreement and issued a formal call for the protection and safety of the civilian population. The French President emphasized that Hezbollah must lay down its arms, while Israel must respect the sovereignty of Lebanon and bring the war to a definitive end.
The ceasefire comes amid a complex geopolitical landscape in the Middle East, where France has historically maintained significant diplomatic ties with Lebanon. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, France has frequently advocated for the implementation of Resolution 1701, which seeks to ensure a zone free of any armed personnel and weapons between the Blue Line and the Litani River. This latest diplomatic push, supported by the administration of US President Donald Trump, aims to mitigate the humanitarian crisis and prevent further escalation into a broader regional conflict.
Earlier, the Lebanese National News Agency reported that violations of the ceasefire regime had already resulted in casualties, including both deaths and injuries, highlighting the fragile nature of the current truce.
