Makron: Hörmüz boğazı açılmasa, gərginlik bitməyəcək

"The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a fundamental condition for the resolution of the conflict."

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that French President Emmanuel Macron made this statement to journalists in Yerevan ahead of the European Political Community summit.

According to the report, Macron emphasized that the full opening of the Strait of Hormuz is essential for resolving the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States. The French President noted that the reopening of the strait should be implemented without any restrictions on shipping or payments. He further remarked that the United States had initially declared a ceasefire with Iran but subsequently blockaded the waterway itself.

"If they want to reopen it now, it is not a problem. We have been talking about this from the beginning," Macron said, adding that Paris will not participate in any military operations in the Middle East. He also highlighted the necessity of adhering to the ceasefire in Lebanon.

It was noted that US President Donald Trump announced the launch of "Operation Freedom" on May 3 to release ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, with the operation scheduled to begin on the morning of May 4. Meanwhile, Ebrahim Azizi, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, stated that they would consider any US intervention in the strait as a violation of the ceasefire.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategic maritime passages, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies is transported. Tensions in the region often have immediate impacts on global energy markets and international security. The European Political Community summit provides a forum for leaders to address such geopolitical challenges and foster cooperation across the broader European region.
