European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is set to announce a significant financial aid package for Greenland during her upcoming visit to the region.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing international media reports, the European Commission President will travel to Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, on Sunday, September 6. During this visit, she is expected to unveil a funding allocation of 200 million euros for the 2026-2027 period.

Sources indicate that these funds are earmarked for strategic investments in critical raw materials, renewable energy sources, subsea cables, satellite communications, and data centers. Additionally, a portion of the financial support will be allocated to the Greenlandic government to assist in improving administrative governance.

As part of the visit, the European Commission President will also sign a declaration aimed at strengthening economic ties between the European Union and Greenland. This partnership is strategically significant, as the EU seeks to secure stable supply chains for critical minerals necessary for its green energy transition, while Greenland looks to modernize its infrastructure and diversify its economy through international cooperation.
