Today, the Prime Minister of Lithuania, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, held a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, during the conversation, the parties noted with satisfaction the positive dynamics observed in the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania in recent times.
In this context, the visit of the former Prime Minister of Lithuania to Azerbaijan this April and the discussions held with President Ilham Aliyev were recalled.
The head of state congratulated Mindaugas Sinkevičius on his election as Prime Minister. In response, Mindaugas Sinkevičius expressed his gratitude for the congratulations and stated that, as Prime Minister, he would keep the development of bilateral relations in constant focus.
During the phone call, the sides discussed cooperation in the energy sector, particularly the ensuring of energy security, and the expansion of trade turnover between the two nations.
The Lithuanian Prime Minister also conveyed his congratulations to President Ilham Aliyev on the anniversary of the Washington Peace Summit and the agreements reached there. The head of state expressed his gratitude for the congratulations.
The conversation also touched upon Azerbaijan-European Union relations, with both sides noting that recent high-level contacts have made a substantial contribution to the development of cooperation. It was emphasized that Lithuania consistently supports the development of Azerbaijan's cooperation with the European Union. The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Lithuania also exchanged views on the current situation in the international arena.
Background: Azerbaijan and Lithuania have maintained a constructive diplomatic relationship since the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence. Both nations have actively engaged in political dialogue, particularly within the framework of the European Union's Eastern Partnership program.
