Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda has criticized the participation of Belarus and several other nations in the "Peace Council" established at the initiative of US President Donald Trump.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Lithuanian leader's remarks were reported by the Delfi news outlet. The president noted that the representation of certain countries, including Belarus, in the Peace Council is "incomprehensible."

"I will not mention others; there are other countries with exotic names as well. Of course, 'peace' is a word that attracts attention and sounds appealing in every sense," Nauseda added during his statement regarding the composition of the new international body.

The Peace Council was recently proposed by US President Donald Trump as a platform to address global conflicts and facilitate diplomatic dialogue. However, the inclusion of Belarus has sparked debate among European Union leaders due to Minsk's political alignment and its role in regional security dynamics. Lithuania, as a neighboring state and a vocal member of NATO and the EU, has consistently maintained a firm stance on regional governance and the necessity of aligning international peace initiatives with democratic principles.
