Former US Secretary of State and 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has issued a sharp critique of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, questioning his political independence.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, reports that Clinton has called on Hungarian voters to withhold their support for the current head of government in the upcoming elections.
Clinton characterized Orban as a figure manipulated by US President Donald Trump.
- "If I were an ordinary Hungarian, my position would be this: I would want to elect someone who cares about Hungary, not a puppet of US President Donald Trump."
Parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 12. According to the latest opinion polls conducted by Politico, opposition forces are currently leading against the ruling party led by Viktor Orban. However, experts note that predicting the final results remains difficult, as the elections are conducted through single-mandate constituencies rather than solely through party lists.
Political analysts emphasize that an opposition victory could significantly impact Hungary's relations with Russia, as Orban's rivals are vocal supporters of providing increased aid to Ukraine. This election is seen as a pivotal moment for Hungary's alignment within the European Union and NATO, where Orban has frequently maintained a distinct and often controversial stance compared to other member states.
