The geopolitical situation in the region remains complex, with ongoing tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel situated 200 km south of Baku, while the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues 200 km to the north.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Turkey's "Milliyet" newspaper, these remarks were made by Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration.
Addressing allegations regarding the use of Azerbaijani territory by the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, the presidential aide emphasized that official Baku considers Iran a brotherly nation.
"Our brothers live on the other side of the border, across the Araz River. Firstly, the freedom and sovereignty of our territories are fundamental principles for us. Secondly, Azerbaijan would never allow its territory to be used for interference against a neighboring country. Thirdly, we have a debt of loyalty there. Those living on the other side of the border, regardless of their nationality or religion, are our brothers. How could we allow such a thing? Fourthly, how is this technically possible? How would they come here from Israel? They would have to pass through Turkey. Neither Turkey nor Azerbaijan would allow this. How would that happen? There are also elements of malicious propaganda here," Hikmat Hajiyev stressed.
This statement reflects Azerbaijan's consistent foreign policy of maintaining regional stability and non-interference in the internal affairs of neighboring states. Baku has repeatedly rejected unfounded claims regarding the use of its territory for third-party intelligence operations, emphasizing that its strategic partnerships are based on mutual respect and national security interests.
