On July 21, an ammunition explosion occurred in the Kalbajar district.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) released a joint statement regarding the incident.

The explosion took place in the territory of Zeylik village in the liberated Kalbajar district.

“Sarxan Alasgar oglu Isgandarov, a resident of the Gazakh district born in 1987, sustained injuries due to an ammunition explosion while grazing livestock in an area that has not yet been cleared of mines. An investigation into the incident is currently underway at the Kalbajar District Prosecutor's Office.”

In their joint statement, the Prosecutor General's Office, the MIA, and ANAMA once again urged citizens to strictly observe safety regulations, pay close attention to mine warning signs, refrain from touching suspicious objects, avoid entering unfamiliar territories, and not interfere with areas currently undergoing demining or fencing operations.

Since the liberation of these territories in 2020, the presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance remains a critical security challenge in the Garabagh region. The government of Azerbaijan continues to prioritize large-scale demining operations to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral lands and to facilitate the reconstruction of infrastructure in the region.
