The rules-based international order is essential for global stability and the protection of smaller nations, preventing a shift toward a system where might makes right. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, this statement was made by Kaja Kallas, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, during a discussion on the future of global governance.
"There is an argument, a belief, that the rules-based world order has always been an illusion. It has always been the law of the jungle: whoever has the power will get what they want. But even in the jungle, animals cooperate, and I believe we must develop an international order with countries that desire this," Kallas noted. She further emphasized that for smaller countries, a rules-based world order serves as a vital shield, ensuring their sovereignty and interests are respected within the international community.
Kaja Kallas, who assumed her role as the EU's top diplomat in late 2024, has consistently advocated for a unified European response to global security challenges. Her remarks come at a time of increasing geopolitical tension, where the effectiveness of international institutions and multilateralism is being tested. Azerbaijan, as a key player in the South Caucasus, has frequently emphasized the importance of international law and the principles of territorial integrity, aligning with the broader discourse on maintaining a stable and predictable global legal framework.
