Images have been released from the scene following a drone attack on the Nakhchivan International Airport, Operative Information Center-OMM reports citing AZERTAC.
According to the AZERTAC regional correspondent, drone strikes were launched from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran into the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan during the afternoon hours today. One unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) struck the terminal building of the Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school building in the village of Shekarabad. The attack on the airport terminal resulted in significant structural damage and left two civilians injured.
Nakhchivan, an exclave of the Republic of Azerbaijan, shares a long border with Iran and has strategic importance for the region's transport and security architecture. The Nakhchivan International Airport serves as a vital civilian hub, connecting the autonomous republic with Baku and international destinations.
