Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), held a high-level meeting to discuss global economic, trade, and logistics challenges on the sidelines of the 13th Global Baku Forum.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) released an official statement regarding the discussions, according to Operative Information Center-OMM.

Strategic discussions with the UN: Key topics

The meeting evaluated various aspects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN, as well as future prospects for partnership. Regional and international issues were a primary focus, particularly the impact of the ongoing situation in the Middle East on the global economy and international trade routes.

The parties engaged in a detailed exchange of views on Azerbaijan's initiatives regarding global and regional energy security, trade, investment, sustainable development, and economic diversification. These efforts are part of the country's broader strategy to reduce dependence on oil and gas by strengthening the non-oil sector.

Middle Corridor and energy security: Azerbaijan's global role

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on the policy of expanding regional and global trade relations and increasing transport and logistics capabilities. Special emphasis was placed on the development of international trade routes alongside traditional and alternative energy projects.

In this context, the strategic importance of strengthening the role of Azerbaijan as an international transit and logistics hub was highlighted, specifically through the development of cooperation within the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route) project. This route is increasingly seen as a vital link between Europe and Asia, offering a faster and more secure alternative to traditional maritime paths.

Impact of the Middle East crisis on global trade

During the meeting, the consequences of rising tensions and conflict in the Middle East remained a central point of concern. The parties expressed their shared anxiety regarding the current situation and reviewed the negative impacts of these processes on international trade stability. Finally, other regional issues of mutual interest were discussed.

The Global Baku Forum, where these discussions took place, has become a significant international platform for world leaders, experts, and diplomats to address pressing global challenges. Organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, the forum underscores Azerbaijan's growing influence in international diplomacy and its commitment to fostering global dialogue.
