A 5.8 magnitude earthquake has struck Japan, with tremors felt in the capital, Tokyo. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency, the epicenter of the quake was located in Chiba Prefecture, near Tokyo, at a depth of 50 kilometers.

Authorities have reported no immediate casualties or significant structural damage. While a tsunami warning was issued shortly after the seismic event, it was lifted within minutes.

This seismic activity occurs against a backdrop of severe weather challenges in Japan. The government has recently ordered the evacuation of 2.23 million residents across 13 prefectures, ranging from Kyushu and Okinawa to the Kinki region, due to torrential rains and typhoon threats. Reports from the Japan Fire and Disaster Management Agency, cited by TBS News, indicate that heavy rainfall has caused flooding in 25 buildings across Fukuoka and Kagoshima prefectures, with three injuries reported in Kagoshima.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued further warnings regarding the potential approach of a typhoon from the Pacific Ocean, which could exacerbate the already critical weather conditions. Additionally, the NHK broadcaster reported that level 4 landslide warnings have been issued for parts of the Chugoku and northern Kyushu regions.

Japan is one of the most seismically active nations in the world, situated along the "Ring of Fire." The country frequently experiences earthquakes of varying magnitudes, necessitating robust disaster preparedness protocols and advanced early warning systems. For context, on June 25, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the region, resulting in 10 injuries.
