French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi have held a telephone conversation to discuss the escalating situation in the Middle East.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Araghchi shared details of the discussion on his Telegram channel, noting that the talks focused on regional developments and recent military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran.
During the conversation, the Iranian Foreign Minister criticized the stance of the European Union and certain European nations. He condemned what he described as a failure to speak out against strikes on the Iranian people, while expressing concern only over the economic consequences of the conflict. Araghchi further stated that Iran's regional defense operations are a direct response to the United States using territories, bases, and facilities in the region to conduct military actions against Iran.
This diplomatic exchange comes amid heightened volatility in the Middle East, as international mediators seek to prevent a broader regional escalation. France has frequently acted as a diplomatic intermediary in regional conflicts, maintaining communication channels with both Tehran and Western allies to advocate for de-escalation and the protection of international maritime and economic stability.
